Versatile Gift Options:
Whether it's for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas, or any other special occasion, this sugar bowl makes a thoughtful and enduring gift. Its charming design, combined with sustainable production, adds an extra layer of meaning to your thoughtful gesture.
Stoneware, a dense and nonporous form of pottery fired at high temperatures, stands as a resilient testament to the art of craftsmanship. Notably harder than porcelain, stoneware resists scratching and boasts a distinct opacity that sets it apart.
At DankoHandmade, we take pride in elevating the quality of stoneware pottery through a meticulous two-step firing process. The initial bisque firing at around 900 °C sets the foundation, preparing the pottery for the subsequent glost firing. This critical second firing, ranging from 1180 to 1280 °C, is dedicated to forming the exquisite glaze that enhances both aesthetics and durability.
Stoneware's water absorption, measuring at less than 1 percent, underscores its dishwasher-safe nature, even with intensive cleaning programs, ensuring both beauty and functionality in everyday use.
The Ceramics Journey: Glaze Firing
Embark on a journey through our shop to witness the various stages of ceramics making.
GLAZE FIRING: The Culmination of Craftsmanship
The glaze firing marks the climax of the artistic process. After carefully applying glazes to the bisqueware and allowing them to dry, each piece finds its place in the kiln for this transformative firing. Temperatures, varying between 2020 F (1100 C) and 2350 F (1280 C), are precisely controlled to reach the point of clay and glaze maturity.
A delicate dance unfolds inside the kiln, where pots must not touch to prevent the melting of glazes into a unified mass. The kiln, heated slowly to perfection, is then gradually cooled. Only after this meticulous cooling process is complete can the kiln be opened, revealing the culmination of craftsmanship—the final, exquisite pieces.
Explore our shop to witness the intricate stages of ceramics making and experience the artistry of DankoHandmade. Each piece tells a story of dedication, precision, and the timeless beauty of stoneware pottery.
