The Ceramics Making Journey:
(Discover various stages in our shop)
Embark on the captivating journey of crafting ceramics through the art of throwing. This intricate process involves skillfully maneuvering a rapidly rotating pottery wheel and various tools to transform a humble lump of clay into a mesmerizing ceramic masterpiece.
The method commences by placing the clay lump precisely at the center of the wheel head, fashioning an opening at its exact midpoint. Gradually enlarging this opening, the potter skillfully pulls up the sides, culminating in the creation of a cylinder. A sufficient amount of clay is intentionally retained for the base. Subsequently, the potter meticulously shapes the sides and mouth of the piece before delicately removing it from the wheel.
As the ceramic piece reaches the leather-hard stage during the drying process, the potter gains the opportunity to trim away excess clay, introduce handles, spouts, or other attachments, and engage in carving, cutting, or re-shaping. While an adept potter may make this process appear effortless, it demands years of unwavering dedication and extensive practice to master the art of throwing, ultimately creating balanced and aesthetically pleasing pieces.
