Ceramics, an ancient craft tracing back to the dawn of industry, possesses inherent artistic qualities, elevating it to the status of art even in its nascent stages. The diverse tribes that once inhabited the lands now known as Bulgaria have bequeathed a rich cultural legacy, leaving behind various forms of ceramics from Thracians, Romans, Slavs, and Proto-Bulgarians. Influenced by the proximity to the Mediterranean's vibrant culture, Bulgarian crafts have evolved over centuries.
At DankoHandmade, we honor these traditions by infusing them with a modern touch. Each product line showcases a unique style and character, yet all radiate the comforting warmth of the Bulgarian soil.

THROWING
Throwing clay involves using a swiftly rotating pottery wheel and tools to mold a lump of clay into an exquisite ceramic piece. Starting with centering the clay on the wheel head, an opening is carefully crafted in the center, gradually expanding to form a cylinder. After shaping the sides and mouth, the piece is delicately removed. As it reaches the leather-hard stage, the potter trims excess clay, adds handles, spouts, or attachments, and refines the piece through carving or cutting. While skilled potters make this intricate process seem effortless, it demands years of dedication and extensive practice to master the art of creating balanced and beautiful pieces.
