Stoneware, a resilient and nonporous form of pottery, undergoes a high-temperature firing process that sets it apart from the rest. Fired with precision at elevated temperatures, it achieves a level of hardness that resists scratching, making it a durable choice. While porcelain boasts translucency, stoneware distinguishes itself with a captivating opacity that adds a unique character to each piece.
DankoHandmade's Commitment to Excellence:
At DankoHandmade, we take stoneware craftsmanship to new heights by subjecting our creations to a meticulous double-firing process. The initial bisque firing at around 900°C lays the foundation, while the subsequent glost firing at 1200°C forms the glaze, resulting in a superior finish. Remarkably, our stoneware products exhibit minimal water absorption, ensuring they remain dishwasher-safe, even under intensive programs.
A Journey Through Human History:
Pottery and ceramics stand as timeless witnesses to human civilization, from ancient storage vessels to contemporary space shuttle tiles. DankoHandmade proudly continues this rich tradition, infusing each creation with the essence of our cultural heritage.

1. WEDGING - A Dance with Clay:
Step into the fascinating world of ceramics with the art of wedging. This process involves skillfully mixing clay by hand, rotating and pressing a clay ball on a table. The objective is twofold: to homogenize the clay thoroughly and eliminate any lurking air bubbles. This meticulous step is crucial, as the presence of air bubbles could lead to disastrous kiln explosions. Picture it as a dance of precision—any misstep, and the pot, along with its neighbors in the kiln, faces ruin. The telltale sign of air in the clay? Holes, reminiscent of Swiss cheese, revealed when slicing through the clay with a wire. Dive into the intricacies of ceramics making, discover the craftsmanship behind each piece, and explore the unique creations in our shop.
